There are some good books published in the past abroad on the subject of soil, water and plant relations. The subject has also been covered by many authors as part of books on soil science, agronomy and irrigation. However, most of these books focus on physical and physiological relations of water with soils and plants, in general, as processes. In variance with it, in the present book emphasis has been given on analyzing these processes in relation to growth of crop plants in variable agricultural systems adopted in India and like countries. This was somehow not much emphasised in the past. Also, the elements of weather as they affect water relation with soil and plants and, in turn, influence crop performance, are highlighted in the present write-up.
