Book Summary:

NEET is proposed to be rolled out from 2013. This means that now there will be a common entrance test for admission to all UG programmes and that will be called NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test.

This exam will be conducted by CBSE. As of now, there are some 17 entrance tests held to fill more than 30,000 seats in around 271 medical colleges. Now with NEET, there will be a single entrance examination for all these colleges offering MBBS courses.

Basically this will cover all the medical colleges coming under the ambit of Medical Council of India (MCI). 138 of these colleges are run by the government while 133 come under private management. NEET is expected to be very different from the AIPMT. However, please note that the status of NEET is subject to change.
